Archipel is proud to bring you the second installment of its Assignment series, this time with "Assignment 2: Time." Just as with its CD counterpart, the idea of Assigment 2 was to bring together two artists and have them each collaborate on a track with each other using samples from Archipel's Sample Pack 2. Leif and Mateo Murphy kick off the web compilation with a sparse and driving off beat skitter scatter of groovy and swinging sounds. Le Cantin and Kabale Und Liebe take things...

One could have blinked and missed the entire past year, but not with Archipel. It has been a year of sound adventures and creative mass. And to celebrate we bring you two new netreleases. The first of which is local Quebec artist Sul.a's stunning Archipel debut net LP entitled "Don't Forget to Turn Off the Lights." It begins with the shuddering and stuttering "En Plein Dedans le Mois de Novembre" which is a delicate dance of chopped up chords and crystaline percussion....

Confronted with the idea of only using 3 samples from the samplepack and then picking one extra, a bunch of Archipel artists went beyond their usual creative routine to deliever a massive effort. Eight tracks that introduce you to an exercise which will be repeated regularly, as Archipel is a label about challenges and new ideas. Only reprocessing and effect were permitted, as Archipel believes that creative limits are actually a door that leads beyond our personal limits. This release opens up...

Patrice Cantin of Montreal has mainly focused on IDM since early 2000. His taste and passion for both melody and percussion comes from an early love of music and his percussion background in a garage rock band. For his first net-release on Archipel, Patrice works with a good mixture of beats and warm ambience. Throughout Secrets We All Share, warped beats and percussion peppered with breezy noises and swirling pads are perfectly refreshing in any room. With 'Fancy Stairs', Patrice drops sounds...

For his first release on Archipel, Jesse Somfay, known for his sense of playful and dramatic melodies, rhythms and emotional moments, has created a release full of pulpy romance. 'Love Affair with the Moon' is a bittersweet and mysterious affair which stretches across elastic and dreamlike landscapes. It releases its full psychedelic properties as soon as it begins. 'Your Heart is in Love with Itself' is a thirteen minute journey through a humid summer night just after sunset. As it progresses,...

Already dropped by Richie Hawtin, Archipel presents you with Kabale und Liebe's debut on the Archipel netlabel and it is a stormer! We start off with "2 Voor de Prijs Van 1" which was produced with the help of Kabale und Liebe's friend A.L. The track immediately gets straight to the point with it's heavy strung out backbone and stuttering hi end full of tiny subleties and squishy effects. "Blow Your Own Trompet" is an equally madenning piece fueled by humid darkness, wobbly...

Archipel reaches number ten with this fine debut from Christian Dittman called "Cosas Simples." It begins with the gentle sway of "Para Karol" which ebbs and swirls as smoothly as ocean water in a slight summer breeze. "Suenos" is a deep and spastic and acts like the wind lifting up the sand on a warm day under the sun. It is speckled with sunny stabs and airy pads perfect for a last day at the beach before the bitter chill of fall arrives. One could speak to soon...

The future is indeed bright for Ryan Crosson who, for his first Archipel netrelease 'The Plane Ride', brings gooey thick minimal funk to all who step aboard this flight. 'Bow String' is a hypnotic and spastic ride through torrents of tiny sounds with a hint of reverb and enough bass to down a plane! Crosson then brings us 'Ryepickle and Cheese' which is another reverb speckled bass heavy bout of turbulance on a very funky flight. 'Blue to Green' is deep and throbbing with melted plastic...

Russian Linesman is the electronica project of England's Jamie Boyer who has released on labels such as Tide Pool and Undercut already, sprinkling a trail of summery aural gems as he goes and "Gazellig EP" is no exception, including a remix from Roland Klinkenberg.
